Class Descriptions
Hot Mamas I/II (Burlesque Jazz 21 yrs and up) Sexy. Jazz. Dance. With props. Work out. Laugh. Feel beautiful. Students will learn the basics of jazz and burlesque style body movements. Bring a boa if you have one, if not, we’ll have one for you.
Heat Wave Musical Comedy Company – audition required. There’s physical comedy, serious acting, dancing and singing, plus jokes. Performs with Heat Wave Dance at the year-end recital and with the Heat Wave dance companies on a limited basis.
Tween Ballet / Jazz / Musical Theatre (10-12 yrs old) This is a mixed level class that introduces musical theater dance. Emphasis will be on ballet and jazz techniques and will combine barre, center work and basic dance combinations from musicals on Broadway or in film and T.V. Students will be encouraged to explore acting through dance.
Teen Ballet / Jazz / Musical Theatre (12 yrs and up) This is a mixed level ballet/ jazz class that works to increase flexibility and strength. Students will learn essential theater dance steps and the fundamentals of turns and jumps. Every few weeks, students will learn a new dance combination introducing a different style, genre or era of dance. Students are encouraged to explore acting through dance while working on movement, dancing with strength, and "selling" a dance number.
Acting (8-18 yrs old) This will be an advanced class with some improv, but mostly monologue/scene study with additional opportunities throughout the year for workshops/auditions with local casting directors. We will devote 1 section (2 months) to commercial work. Whether your child plans to pursue an acting career or has theatre as just a passing interest, the skills gained here will better equip anyone who may ever have to speak with or in front of another person. Plus, there will be fun.
